I remember learning from my mother, at a young age, that the best moisturizers for skin come from natural, plant oils. She taught me that these oils are free from all of the ‘junk’ usually found in your conventional creams and lotions… And was she ever right!
I fell in love with the simple, nourishing properties of apricot kernel oil from a young age. It was my go-to oil and was all I needed to moisturize my dry skin. I vividly remember the day I bought my first bottle. My mom took me to a natural health store to pick out an oil, after I complained to her about needing new body creams. I’ve always suffered from dry skin and would religiously slather on moisturizers after every shower, without putting much thought into the long, toxic ingredient list that was essentially going on my skin. Thanks to my mother, I soon realized I was much better off using plant oils like apricot kernel oil, since it’s made from just one, natural, nourishing ingredient—apricot kernel oil.

WHAT IS IT AND WHAT DOES IT DO FOR MY SKIN?
Apricot kernel oil is a lightweight oil, with a very mild, nutty aroma. It’s expressed from the inside pit of the apricot fruit. The kernels are rich in many skin-loving nutrients like essential fatty acids and vitamins A, B, and E. By using a cold-press extraction method, many of these nutrients are preserved and present in the extracted oil.
The composition of the oil closely resembles our skins sebum. This allows the body to absorb it on a deep, cellular level, playing a huge role in its ability to restore skins natural vitality.
Apricot kernel oil is primarily made up of essential fatty acids (oleic, linoleic, alpha-linolenic, palmitic and stearic acid), providing great emollient abilities, helping to retain moisture, fight against dry, rough skin, and improve the appearance and overall texture of the skin. The oil also contains a rich source of antioxidants which help reduce oxidative stress, ideal for mature or damaged skin. Antioxidant nutrients help protect and prevent skin damage, soothe irritated or inflamed skin, and also speed up the healing process of minor cuts and burns by promoting new cell growth.
The oil does not clog pores and has great antibacterial properties, helping fight off harmful bacteria while cleansing pores and preventing future breakouts. It also works to balance the production of oil, while preventing a buildup of sebum in our glands. This can unfortunately be an underlying problem for acne-prone skin.
Apricot kernel oil is an overall very nourishing and rejuvenating oil for skin health. Now you know why our body oils are formulated with cold-pressed, unrefined, apricot kernel oil.
